INTERMODAL

 

Whimsy’s Intermodal Trucking division transports containerized shipments to and from Chicago and Kansas City rail ramps and customers’ distribution centers. With more than 12 years of experience in the intermodal industry, our team of qualified company drivers and owner operators are well experienced in handling all of your needs.

 

Whimsy services the entire mid-west area that includes: local, regional or over-the-road container shipments.

 

Our staff of knowledgeable dispatchers and customer service representatives will provide you the quality service you have come to expect.

LTL & OTR

 

Whimsy’s LTL & OTR division is still in the infant stages but growing quickly. We have placed the same standards in this division as we do in the Intermodal division and feel our knowledgeable and courteous drivers will ensure your next day delivery requirements when needed.

TRANS-LOADING & YARD STORAGE

 

At Whimsy we offer short to long term storage of containers and we will even trans-load the container to avoid per-diem charges with the steamship lines.

 

We have multiple storage yards strategically placed throughout the Chicago land area and Kansas City area to store all your containers.

 

 

 

TRANS-LOADING & BLOCKING/BRACING

 

Whimsy will trans-load any shipment you have and re-load into a container for  an international or domestic shipment. Our staff will follow all guidelines set forth by the rail carriers for acceptable blocking and bracing. We use “Ty-Gard” for hazardous shipments and will send you digital pictures once completed for all shipments.

 

We are capable of handling everything from vehicles to standard palletized freight to floor loaded drums.

RAIL TRANSPORT

 

We have partnered with a major rail carrier to transport your container by rail to the port. This will in some cases reduce the road transport cost by up to 75%.

 

Whimsy will load your container locally and make all the arrangements to rail to the port. Our knowledgeable staff will track the container and make sure it arrives in time for the intended vessel.

TRI-AXLES

 

Whimsy owns and operates approximately eighty 20’ tri-axles between our Chicago and Kansas City offices. With the use of a tri-axle, it allows the shipper to load a 20’ container with a maximum weight of around 44,000 pounds. Without a tri-axle, the legal weight would only be 37,500 pounds. Thus maximizing the amount of freight that can be shipped per container load.

HAZ-MAT

 

Whimsy Trucking and the majority of our drivers are HAZ-MAT certified to haul all types of hazardous loads. We specialize in hauling firework loads (1.4 only).

OVERWEIGHT SHIPMENTS

 

We have the capability of obtaining overweight permits to haul loads of any weight.
